The songs that you enjoy listening to, the BGM that you love having as your ringtone or the beautiful voices of the actors that you hear on screen, all these have a sound engineer’s labour in it. Anything that you hear in a movie has something to do with the sound engineer. Starting from recording the voices of actors and ambient sounds on sets till, doing the dubbing and adding sound effects, everything is taken care of by the sound engineer. Although it is one of the most important roles in the making of a film, it is not spoken about much since the job majorly involves working in a studio, behind the scene. It is a highly technical job that requires one to have a strong knowledge about usage of audio related equipment and a keen sense of listening. A sound engineer also needs to have a good understanding of the script in order to be able to give the feel that the film demands through his audio services.

Chennai’s Visualite Film Institute offers certificate and Diploma courses in sound engineering that tends to cover all the above said aspects of sound engineering. The certificate course which is a short-term course is for three months and the Diploma course which is a long-term course is for a period of six months. The course is an all-inclusive course that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of sound engineering with live studio sessions for the students to practice on.
